Show review: The last pool party ever
It was all worth it to see DMC, Andrew WK and a yeti-dressed Tim Harrington on stage together singing “Walk This Way.”
Watching that. Then turning around and seeing the Manhattan skyline over the East River. And seeing the hundreds of people sitting in the grass behind the tents. Then walking home to my apartment. And realizing that this is something real that has actually happened. It’s hard to be mad at the pretentiousness of a crowd, or peoples’ ignorance (heard a dude say “Who is that guy?” when Tim Harrington came out. Made me giggle.) when this is a world where things like this can happen
The pool parties are done. And that seems fitting. Because it’s not like it’s going to be the end of sweet shit, you know? There will always and forever be sweet shit and hopefully some of it will still be put on by Jelly, and hopefully some of it will still take place at the East River park. We can’t become another generation of people who are constantly longing for a time that is past and that will never come back. Come on guys, this is nothing if not an opportunity to do something sweet. Andrew WK would NOT want you to be bummed. This was a great party, but it was only one of A MILLION PARTIES that are yet to come.
Next summer we’re gonna be doing something rad as hell and thinking “Man, I’m glad I’m on this shit from the BEGINNING!!!!”
Thanks Nicky Digital for taking this rad video of “Walk This Way.”
